5 Reasons Why Homosexuality is Wrong

Introduction

The discussion on homosexuality has become a divisive topic in society. The issue centers on whether homosexuality is morally permissible and this has resulted in an ongoing debate that has in the past few decades become much more prevalent. Below are 5 common arguments against homosexuality that rest on claims that homosexual behavior is morally objectionable as well as points that refute them. Each argument is also evaluated on whether or not it is sound.

In each of the arguments there is a format that each point follows. First, the reason why homosexuality is wrong. In the paragraphs will explain the views and beliefs on each topic. Second point, is the structure of the argument; stating the problem, why it is a problem, and how it is wrong. Third, is stating weather the argument is valid or invalid and sound or unsound. An argument is sound when all the premises are true. What makes an argument valid is when the premises entail a conclusion. What makes an argument invalid is when the premises do not lead to a conclusion. Last point, is stating the counter example for each argument. A counter example is a reason for why the argument is not true, basically giving a reason to disprove the argument. 

Why Is Homosexuality Wrong? 

1. Homosexuality is Unnatural 

No one is born into becoming a homosexual. It is a choice that a person will make based on life experiences one will go through that leads them into that decision. When God made the first people on this earth they were made to produce more people in the world. It is in a man and woman's nature to be attracted to the opposite sex. It is whats "normal." In animal life, there are no animals being attracted to the same sex, let alone reproducing. People of the same sex are not meant to be sexually attracted to each other it is not right and it is not the way God made us as humans. 

Homosexuality and its acts are unnatural.

All things that do not occur in nature are wrong.

Therefore, homosexuality is wrong. Valid and Unsound.

Counter Example: 

 Epidurals, c-sections, and inductions are alternatives to natural child birth and do not occur in nature and are accepted as morally permissible. 

2. Homosexuality Violates Marriage

Homosexuality violates marriage because it is traditional for a man and women to be married. Marriage is much more than just a relationship between just two beings. Marriage is looked at as a relationship that is made up in human nature that is governed by natural law although certain states are now allowing gay marriage, it is still moral that it should be done the traditional way.  

Homosexuality violates marriage because the definition of marriage is between a man and woman. 

Homosexual marriages are between the same sex. 

Therefore, homosexual marriage is wrong. Valid and Sound.

Counter Example: 

States such as Maryland, California, New York, and Washington have amended the traditional definition of marriage to recognize the union between same sexes. 

3. Homosexuality Prevents Procreation 

If the percentage of homosexuality continues to grow there will be a decrease in production in the world. When two people of the same sex are sexually active with each other, they are not allowing themselves to reproduce children into the world. God purpose for sex, is to procreate, and if you do not reproduce will having sex it is viewed as being wrong. Making homosexuality wrong as well. 

Any form of sex that does not result in reproduction is wrong.

 Homosexual acts do not cause reproduction. 

Therefore, homosexuality is wrong. Valid and Sound.

Counter Example: 

Advances in technology have allowed same sex couples to reproduce through in vitro fertilization.  

4. Homosexuality offends God

According to believers in Christ, there are various scriptures in the bible that states that God is against the life style of gays and lesbians. People believe that anything written in the bible is correct and people shouldn't go against God’s word. It doesn't matter if what god says is wrong, it is unmoral to go against it. In the Bible, God condemns against homosexuality.

Counter Example: 

There are many topics in the Bible that God says is wrong. For example, in Leviticus 19:19 God also condemns mixing wool and linen. However, today that is not viewed as being wrong. Everything God condemns in the Bible is not right. 

5. Homosexuality conflicts with family values

A family consist of a mother, father, and kids. Homosexuals who choose to be married and have kids are breaking away from the traditional families and violate the values of family. As a kid growing up seeing both of the parents as the same sex. The kid will adapt to what they see, as kid they will not see homosexuals, they will think that is how things are and as result can potentially become a homosexual. There is a saying that says, "you are a product of your environment." I seriously believe that this is the case for many children who have to grow up in a household of homosexuals. 

A family is made up of a man, woman, and children.
Homosexual families do not allow children to be raised by a man and woman which prevents them from receiving the nurturing that only a father and mother can provide.
Therefore, homosexual families are wrong. Invalid and Unsound. 

Counter Example: 

Studies have shown that there are minimal differences in the psychological and emotional development of children with homosexual parents.
